plastering

Old Ceiling TilesI‘ve been out at the farm again working on fixing plaster. I did get quite a bit accomplished. All the fiber ceiling tiles that were put up sometime in the 70s and the furring strips were completely removed and taken out to the burn pile. I lit them up and stood back and enjoyed the flames – it was a nice way to end their horrific existence.

Old Ceiling Tiles Removed Exposing Original Plaster CeilingThe exterior of the farm house currently has vinyl siding which I plan to remove this spring. Before doing so I decided I should open up a section of the wall – through the plaster to find out whether I should try to insulate from the inside or do some sort of blow fill from the outside. If insulating from the inside I had to decide whether or not to keep the plaster on the exterior walls or completely remove it, insulate and then replace with drywall.

Exposed Plumbing in CeilingAt some point in the past a previous owner of Carley Brook Farm, instead of fixing the plaster ceilings, nailed up furring strips and then fiber ceiling tiles. Those ugly tiles.

The tiles on the kitchen ceiling had shown signs of leaks and water damage from one of the upstairs baths.

First things first. Explore to find out exactly where the leak is coming from and fix that. Perhaps just removing a section of the tile and see what I can find. I was not quite sure what I was going to find under the fiber tiles but it seemed simple enough to remove a few of them.
