Remodeling a Small Bathroom in a Log Home Part 19: Making A Custom Exposed Shower System

After having made my own copper sink and faucet as discussed in the last post I had to now make my own exposed copper shower system.

Custom Copper Exposed Shower SystemSince the wall is made of logs there is no place to hide the plumbing so if it has to be exposed then I may as well play it up and make it something fun.

I wanted a spout to fill the tub as well as the overhead shower and be able to use a hand held sprayer.

Using basic copper pipe I set to work.  I used gate and ball valves for the controls.  The gate vales provide a shut off from the main water supply.  Ball valves were used to supply water to the hand held, tub or shower.

By turning the gate valves I can regulate the temperature that I want the water.  Once i have it set where I want it I do not touch them again and then use the ball valves for the tub fill, hand held or overhead shower to turn on and off the water.

The overhead shower head rises almost eight feet above the tub for a great rain shower.  The hand made copper bathtub measures six feet long by three feet wide.

Very cool and very inventive! Gives me some great ideas for what to do with a clawfoot tub I’m restoring that will sit next to a log wall. What did you use for the handheld?
