Hi there! Using your mortar mix suggestions and simple steps, laid back attitude, and easy tofollow article – we have finally re-chinked the logs under our porch!
Thanks to you – after two years of researching methods and what to use and how to do – yours was the simplest and best.
We added insulation first, the original filler scrap wood, a screen wire mesh to put on top of the wood scrap to hold the chinking in better, and topped it off with the mortar mix you’ve suggested. It looks wonderful!
So far we’ve dated our house to 1737.
Now I want to rip off the plaster inside and expose those walls! Got to convince my husband on that, though! Many thanks for you informative site. One of these days we will visit as you are not that far away!

I would like to restore a 900 square foot log cabin (1800s). It has stucco on the outside. The logs seem to be in good condition. The chinking falls off if we loosen it on the inside. The chimney, made of river rock on the outside has come away from the wall and leans out. I would be happy if you give ideas. If you pass this way in PA, you can take a look.
